The Darkness II is a first-person shooter with a psychological horror theme, and a sequel to the 2007 The Darkness, which in turn is based on the comic of the same name. Similar to its predecessor, players use the character's Darkness' powers to eliminate enemies, with such added features as using both Darkness and firearms simultaneously. The game also includes the Vendettas mode, which allows up to four players in a co-operative campaign linked to the main story.
Two years following the events of the previous game, Jackie Estacado is now the don of the Franchetti mafia, while still possessing the Darkness power. After a violent assassination attempt, Jackie once again embraces the Darkness to destroy his enemies.
The Darkness II received positive reviews with an average score of 80%, praised for its storytelling and fun gameplay for both single player and co-op, though criticized for its linear levels and lack in polish.
This is a rather low 2-star difficulty. Two playthroughs are required, though the game is rather short. This is followed by some side missions, and a chapter select to mop-up anything that was missed. Not a particularly difficult game, even on Don (hard) mode, since you'll be playing a New Game+ with an upgraded character.
Expect roughly 15 hours or so, depending on your skills.
Since you'll need two playthroughs anyway, you can start things on Thug difficulty. Also, if you wish to make mopping-up easier later on, this would be a good chance to unlock those miscellaneous trophies along the way. This includes finding all 29 Relics, to check out the Collectibles Guide under our Links tab. There are also a number of kill-related trophies, and a few others. Check out the Darkness II trophy guide links for further details. Keep in mind, however, that there is a Chapter Select available later on, in case you miss anything.
Once you've completed your first playthrough, it's time to start your second on a New Game+ for the At Home In The Dark trophy, and on Don difficulty for the Don Of Darkness trophy. Again, to avoid mopping-up afterwards, use this playthrough to collect any outstanding trophies.
After that, it's time to start the Vendettas, which are a collection of side mission. These can be played in online co-op if you like, so check out the boosting forums under our Links tab if you're looking for a partner or two. Though they can certainly be earned in single-player, as well. These can be done on Thug difficulty, and we recommend sticking with only one of the four characters so as to make use of all upgrades.
Finally, head into the Hit List and complete all six. Use the other three remaining characters in order to gain all their talents.
After that, if there are any trophies you're still missing, now's the time to mop-them up with the Chapter Select.
