Dead Space: Extraction

Dead Space: Extraction is a sci-fi horror, FPS-rail shooter, and a prequel to the original 2008 title, initially an exclusive for the Nintendo Wii, released in 2009. Two years later, Extraction was ported onto the PlayStation 3 as a free game included with the limited edition version of Dead Space 2, and is currently available for download on the PlayStation Network.

The story begins with a crew of miners extracting the Red Marker from Aegis VII, wen they begin experiencing hallucinations and start killing one another. Detective Nathan McNeill is investigating the situation, eventually leading him to the Ishimura, where he finds himself attacked by both psychotic colonists and Necromorphs.

Dead Space: Extraction met with generally positive reviews, with an average score of 77% for the PlayStation 3 version, praised for creating an original style to the rail-shooter genre while remaining true to the Dead Space franchise, and for its great story, but criticized for its relatively short gameplay.

Pretty standard as most games go, and Impossible Mode isn't nearly as frustrating as on the previous games in the series. You'll need at least two full playthroughs, one on Hard to unlock Impossible, and one on Impossible, then some mopping-up if necessary and a set of challenges afterwards. Also, during at least one playthrough, you'll need to be on the lookout for collectibles.

The game can be played with a regular DualShock 3, though we found it easier to aim using the Move controller.

Overall, expect anywhere between 20-35 hours, depending on your skills.

If you're in a rush for that Platinum, then load up the hardest available mode, which will be Hard, and follow one of the collectible guides under our Links tab from beginning to end. Along the way, there are several other trophies you can be earning, so stay alert to the Dead Space Extraction trophy guide links under our Links Tab as well, to see what you need to do along the way. Once this stage is finished, you should have a fair percentage of the trophies unlocked.

After completing Hard, you will have unlocked Expert and Impossible mode. Since the difficulty mode trophies are stackable, start up Impossible mode and just focus on getting through to the end. If possible, you may also wish to use this opportunity to mop-up anything you missed during your first playthrough.

If by now you're still missing some trophies, you can select chapters on Easy to mop-up.

Last are the 10 challenges which should now be unlocked. These aren't too difficult, and you'll have all your weapon upgrades with you, as well.

After that, it's Platinum time!
