Nioh

Nioh is a third-person action RPG which blends Japanese history with supernatural fantasy. Gameplay focuses on hack-and-slash combat with a variety of melee and ranged weapons, while upgrading the player-character by collected XP, as well as using higher-grade weapons and armor. While not open-world, players can traverse to different enclosed locations by selecting from a menu.

The story takes place in 1600 towards the end of the Sengoku period, when the Tokugawa shogunate were attempting to control and unify Japan through a civil war. Anglo-Irish sailor William, during a search for a mystical golden stone called Amrita which leads him to Japan, sides with Ieyasu Tokugawa to defeat the evil spirits that have broken loose after the ravaging of war.

Nioh recieved positive reviews with an average score of 89%, praised for its visuals, setting, combat, and overall challenging and fun gameplay.

The game can be a bit challenging at times, though the difficulty is overall above average but doable for most players. The 3-star rating is more for the time required, as there is a lot of grinding required for the Platinum. The two online trophies are related to the Twilight missions, which require internet connection but can be performed solo.

Expect roughly 100 hours of gameplay for the Platinum, depending on skills and how much you rush through using guides and walkthroughs.

The game doesn't have any missable trophies, so feel free to play through and enjoy the story by completing all the missions. If you wish to make things easier later on, be on the lookout for collectibles in the form of Kodamas and Hotsprings. Check out the collectible location guides under our Links tab if this is something you wish to work on now.

Also, during your playthrough, try to save as much money as you can, which you'll need for making a total of 60 requests at the blacksmith for the Regular Smith Customer trophy. This means selling your unwanted gear, rather than trading or throwing it away, and only disassemble when you need to.

Once you've finished the story, you can start a New Game+ where missions are higher in level but drop divine items. Here is where you'll be grinding in order to max out all the weapons to unlock their respective Master-related trophies.

From here on out, it's time to mop-up the remaining trophies you may still be missing. This may include using all that saved money to make 60 requests at the blacksmith for the Regular Smith Customer trophy, finding all the highest quality materials for the Master Of Quality trophy, reaching Level 100 for the Full-Fledged Samurai trophy, and a few other miscellaneous trophies. Be sure to check out the Nioh Trophy Guide links under our Links tab to see what you're missing and their requirements.
