Singularity

Singularity is a first-person shooter with elements of survival horror. Aside from standard as well as imaginative firing weapons, players use a device named the Time Manipulation Device which can manipulate time, thereby moving objects forward and back in time, or sending pulses of energy that both stuns and kills enemies. The game includes an online multiplayer mode.

Captain Nathaniel Renko, along with his group of US Recon Marines, crash on an island once occupied by the Soviet Union called Katorga-12. From there, strange things begin to occur to Renko has he finds himself phasing between 1955 and present day.

Singularity, despite low sales, received mainly positive reviews with an average score of 77%, praised for its overall fun and challenge as an FPS shooter, but criticized by some for limiting an otherwise imaginative idea to a simple action game.

This is a high 2-star rating. Completing the campaign on Hard difficulty can be challenging at times, but is overall doable for an average player with patience and persistence. There are also 16 online trophies which are not difficult, but require a lot of time - particularly for playing and completing 100 matches, with each taking nearly 30 minutes.

It should also be noted that given the age of the game, finding online players can be tough, of which you need 6 in order to begin a match.

Expect at least 60 hours for this Platinum, depending on your skills and luck at finding online players.

It's quite possible to get all the offline trophies in one playthrough, and if that's your goal, then begin on Hard difficulty, which is available from the beginning. Aside from the story-related trophies which you'll unlock naturally, there are a large number of kill-related trophies to earn. During your playthrough, always take note of which trophies you've already unlocked and which you still need.

The game has no chapter select, and for that reason there are 3 missable trophies. For the E99 Tech Geek trophy, you will need to find the 10 abilities to upgrade your characters, so make sure to spend a playthrough following one of the locations guides in our Links page. For the Mother My Brain Hurts trophy, you'll need to find the pearl during the Central Docks stage. And for the That Wheel? trophy, look for the wheel in the last level of the game.

Also, once you've completed the game, reload the autosave to select one of the other three alternative endings, in order to unlock their corresponding trophy.

If you weren't able to get all the kill-related trophies, or you missed one of the missable trophies, then unfortunately you'll need to play the game again. One alternative, however, is to make manual saves during your gameplay on a portable HD. However, take note that if you've been playing the online multiplayer, your stats are saved on the PlayStation HD and not on the online servers.

Finally, with all the offline stuff out of the way, you can start grinding for the remaining online trophies. Your ultimate goal is to unlock the Extermination Addict which requires you to play 100 public matches of Extermination. Luckily, you don't actually need to win these 100 matches. But there are a number of other trophies you can work on during your progress, such as winning 25 matches of Extermination for Extermination Master, getting the highest number of kills in a public match for the Killer trophy, and a number of other kill-related trophies.
