Skullgirls 2nd Encore

Skullgirls 2nd Encore is a 2D fighting game with anime-style graphics, first released as Skullgirls on smartphones and seventh generation consoles in 2012, then ported onto eighth generation consoles as Skullgirls 2nd Encore in 2015. With game mechanics intentionally modeled after Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes, the game includes tag-team combat, snapbacks, delayed hyper combos, and customizable character assists.2nd Encore was updated with a larger roster of characters, new modes such as Challenges and Combo Trials, as well as added voice-acting in the story mode.

The original Skullgirls received positive reviews with an average score of 81%, praised for its hand-drawn animation and art style, game mechanics, and online play, though criticized by some for its tag-based system and limited roster.

This is a high 3-star difficulty ranking is purely for the skills required in obtaining the Platinum. Players who have unlocked 100% of the trophies on the original Skullgirls for the PS3 will have an advantage with their experience, but still encounter challenges in getting the Platinum in 2nd Encore. In particular, performing all 56 combo trials for the Overruled trophy can really try your patience, as well as completing all 25 challenges for the Conqueror trophy. The good news is, there are no online trophies to worry about.

In theory, it is possible to unlock the Platinum in around 30 hours. However, inexperienced players or those new to fighting games may required close to 100 hours, with all the patience and practice required.

NOTE: A second controller is not required for the Platinum, but will make a few trophies easier to unlock.

There are no missable trophies, and so you can start working your way towards that Platinum in any way you wish.

However, if you are in need of some direction, and particularly if you’re new to Skullgirls or fighting games in general, you may wish to start in the Tutorial mode. Not only will you learn the game mechanics, but unlock the Skullgirls trophy in the process. Then spend time in Training mode to hone your skills. Spending over two hours in Training mode will unlock the Lab Zero Monster trophy. Also, during this process, you can get the Independent Study trophy as well.

After that, head into Story mode and start playing through for each of the 14 main characters. Your ultimate goal here is to complete all the character story modes to get the Threads Of Fate trophy. However, you will also unlock a trophy for each of the individual characters as well.

In addition to the story mode, there are a number of combo-specific trophies which require specific characters to unlock. These are easier to unlock if you have a second controller. While playing in a local game, activate the Sparring Mode which gives an unlimited super meter. Check out the Skullgirls 2nd Encore trophy guide links under our Links tab for details on these combo-related trophies.

By this point, you should have a good chunk of the trophies unlocked, and you’re ready to move onto the more difficult ones. In Challenge Mode, you’ll need to complete 25 challenges in order to obtain the Conqueror trophy.

In Survival mode, you will need to win up to 10 matches in order to get the Survival Serenity trophy. Also, you will need to complete 4 trials for each character in Trial Mode for the Overruled trophy. This means a total of 56 combo trials, and if you are not familiar with all the characters, this is arguably the most difficult trophy in the game.

Finally, head into the Marie 300% mode, and use Squigly to defeat a powerful version of Marie. This is also arguably one of the most difficult trophies in the game. Doing this will unlock the Two Weeks trophy.

After that, simply mop-up anything you still might be missing to get that trophy. Again, check out the Skullgirls 2nd Encore trophy guide links under our Links tab to see what you still need and their requirements.

Good luck!
