The Evil Within 2

The Evil Within 2, known as Psycho Break 2 in Japanese, is a third-person survival horror and sequel to the 2014 The Evil Within. The game has a more open-world feel compared to its predecessor with larger maps that allow for multiple methods to progress through the levels, as well as provide more exploration where players may find and complete side missions and find weapons. Players often have the choice to either take down enemies using a variety of weapons, or perform stealth tactics to avoid combat.

Three years after the events of the first game, Sebastian Castellanos has since quit the Krimson City Police Department following the trauma that still haunts him. However, after learning that his wife Lily may still be alive, he heads into an idyllic American town named Union being simulated by a new STEM system, with his wife used as the Core.

The Evil Within 2 received positive reviews with an average score of 80%, praised for its horror aspects, challenge, and overall fun, though received mixed reviews on its open-world style and story.

The road to the Platinum is technically quite challenging, and would warrant a 3-star difficulty rating. However, there are cheats which can be used to make your playthrough much easier and do not disable trophies, hence the 2-star rating. A minimum of 2.5 playthroughs is required, as well as finding an assortment of collectibles and getting kill-related trophies.

Expect between 25-45 hours for the Platinum, depending on how many playthroughs you decide to do, and whether or not you use the cheats.

First, if you plan on using the cheats, you’ll first need to make sure the game has been updated with the 1.05 patch. Next, you’ll need to subscribe to Bethesda. If you haven’t already, the link to Bethesda.net is under our Links tab. From there, you’ll have access to a number of cheats that do not disable trophies. These include infinite Stamina, one-shot kills, and infinite health. Essentially, these will make you nearly invincible. There is also a cheat which adds an Akumu difficulty, though this is not required for the Platinum.

If you’re in a rush for that Platinum, then start your first playthrough on Nightmare, which is the hardest mode that is first available. There are two reasons for this. One, is that you will need to to have all your weapons saved under the same save slot in order to unlock the Powerhouse trophy, and one of the weapons is only unlocked after clearing Nightmare (or Classic) mode. The second, is that completing on Nightmare will better prepare you for the challenge of your Classic mode playthrough later.

Along the way, you’ll want to try to get all the side-mission trophies completed, which are all technically missable. Also, there are a number of collectibles to find, so be sure to check out the collectibles guides under our Links tab. Finally, there are several kill-related trophies to get as well. We recommend checking out the Evil Within trophy guide links under our Links tab and get familiar with what you need to do.

Once you’ve finished your Nightmare playthrough, load up the same save and begin a new game on New Game+ on Casual difficulty. Here is where you can complete all the abilities and upgrades you still need, as well as mop-up any missing trophies from your first playthrough. You won’t need to play all the way through, though your goal here should be to get all the outstanding trophies except for the You Asked For It
Again and Platinum trophy. Again, check out the Evil Within trophy guide links to see what you still need and their requirements.

With all that done, it should be time for your Classic mode playthrough. What makes this particularly challenging, even if using the cheats, is that there are no checkpoints and only seven saves, which means you’ll need to repeat many portions of the game if you die. If you’re having trouble with this, check out some of the Classic mode walkthroughs under our Links tab.

After completing this playthrough, and if you’ve been following these steps, you should unlock the You Asked For It
Again trophy, as well as the Platinum.

Psycho Break

Psycho Break, known as The Evil Within outside Japan, is a third-person survival horror, directed by Shinji Mikami, the creator of the Resident Evil series. Players battle nightmarish creatures and bosses with guns and melee weapons, while using stealth and avoiding traps, while making use of the environment in order to survive.

Sebastian Castellanos is a police detective who, along with his partner and a junior detective, arrive at the Beacon Mental Hospital to investigate a mass murder. Soon after their visit however, Sebastian is separated from his colleagues and thrown into a nightmare world.

Psycho Break received positive reviews with an average score of 76%, praised for its story, gameplay, environment, and creepy horror aspects, while the story was criticized by others, as well as a lack in character development.

The 3-star difficulty rating is more for the skill involved, rather than time. While a minimum of 3 playthroughs is required for the Platinum, one of these must be on Akuma difficulty, a mode which features one-hit kills with more enemies. The playthrough on Akuma difficulty, while still doable for any average player, can be incredibly challenging and frustrating, and the main reason for the 3-star difficulty.

Expect anywhere between 40-55 hours for the Platinum, heavily dependent on your skills, as well as how many playthroughs you do.

NOTE: The trophies on the PS4 share the same list with those on the PS3. However, the Western version The Evil Within have separate lists between the PS4 and PS3.

In order to get the Platinum in the least number of playthroughs possible, you'll want to start your first playthrough on Survival difficulty, which will unlock both the First Step Into Darkness and Another Day On The Job trophies. Here, you'll want to complete the game without using any green gel to perform upgrades, in order to unlock the It Is What It Is trophy. You'll also want to follow one of the collectible guides under our Links tab to find all the audio tapes, map fragments, newspapers, personal documents, missing persons posters, and notes, for the Every Nook And Cranny trophy, as well as all 45 keys to unlock their respective lockers for the Master Of Unlocking trophy.

Also, there are a number of kill-related trophies you should aim for during your first playthrough, as well. This includes reaching 400 kills for the One Man Army trophy, as well as a few others for killing enemies with torches, melee attacks, etc. However, since you're not upgrading your player-character, some of these may be difficult at this time and you may wish to work on these during a mop-up stage later. Plus, there is a chapter-select available after completing the game.

Lastly, there are some chapter-specific trophies as well, one for each of the chapters between 2 and 8, as well as chapters 10, 12, and 14. Check out the Evil Within trophy guide links under our Links tab for more details on these. If you miss any of these, remember that there will be a chapter select later.

Once you've unlocked the It Is What It Is trophy, it's time to use Chapter Select to farm for Green Gel to fully upgrade your player-character. The quickest way for this is to farm on Chapter 3: Claws of the Horde on Casual mode. Once you've fully upgraded all attributes, you'll unlock the Hardbody trophy, and be ready for the next step.

Select New Game+ on Casual difficulty, and clear the game in under 5 hours for The Quick And The Dead trophy. Since you've already cleared the game on Survival difficulty, you'll now have both a Rocket Launcher and Machine Gun at your disposal, which makes those boss fights much faster. Keep in mind that while pausing the game will not add to your time, you will lose time from dying, reloading checkpoints, and watching cutscenes.

With that done, it's time to mop up all the miscellaneous trophies with the exception of Master Of Horror and You Asked For It trophies. With Sebastian now fully upgraded, using the Chapter Select and mopping up what's left shouldn't be too much of a problem. Check out the Evil Within trophy guide links under our Links tab to see what you still need and their requirements.

Finally, it's time for one last playthrough, this time on Akuma difficulty, the most challenging mode in the game. This must be done on a new game, and NOT a New Game+. Not only is there less ammo in the game, and more enemies, but your player-character will die after one hit. This is no easy task, but as long as you remain patient and determined, any average player can complete it. Check out the some of the tips under our Links tab if you need extra assistance. Clearing the game on Akuma difficulty will unlock both the You Asked For It and the Master Of Horror trophies.

If you've completed everything else by this point, then you should also unlock your hard-earned Platinum. Congratulations!
