Online Server Shutdown Update

So far, we’ve seen a few games have their online server shutdown this year on both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, causing their Platinum trophies to become Not Obtainable. Some notable titles were PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, Twisted Metal, Warhawk, and Drawn to Death.

Yet the list is not over. As games age, and their online servers become less populated with players, they run the risk of being closed. This can spell disaster for trophy hunters and completionists determined to get those Platinum trophies.

So to help you prepare for these disasters, here is a list of all known titles scheduled to have their online servers closed both this year and next:

July 25, 2019

StarBlood Arena – This was a free PSVR game for PlayStation Plus members in January 2018. The game is online-only, so not only will the Platinum and all its trophies become Not Obtainable by this date, but the game itself will become unplayable.

August 22, 2019

PES 2018 – Also known as Pro Evolution Soccer 2018, or Winning Eleven 2018 in Japan, this game was released by Konami in September 2017 for both the PS3 and PS4. The game includes 15 online trophies, which means the Platinum for both consol versions will become Not Obtainable.

September 4, 2019

The Last of Us – Only the PS3 version will be affected by the shutdown. The game includes 4 online trophies, and several more for the DLC.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves – This shutdown is also for the PS3 version. The game includes 2 easy online trophies, though numberous more for the DLC.

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception – Like the above, only the PS3 version will have its online servers closed. Again, only 2 easy online trophies are required for the Platinum, but many more for the DLC.

December 31, 2019

NBA 2K18 – This should come as no surprise to fans of the NBA 2K series, as their online servers usually don’t last longer than a year. There are a number of online trophies on both the PS3 and PS4 version which will become Not Obtainable after this date.

March 31, 2020

DriveClub – This racing game for the PS4 includes 8 online trophies.

DriveClub VR – The PSVR version of DriveClub, released in October 2016. This game includes 2 online trophies.

DriveClub Bikes – The motorcycle version of DriveClub, released in October 2015. This game includes 3 online trophies, which will become Not Obtainable by March 31 of next year.

May 19, 2020

WWE 2K19 – Though the manual states May 31, we heard from other sources that the online servers will be shut down one week earlier. Fans of the series who want to get the Platinum should try unlock its online trophies before this date, to be safe rather than sorry.

December 31, 2020

NBA 2K19 – This game was recently released, and we already know the date for its online server shutdown. However, while there is still a fair bit of time to unlock its online trophies, it’s always a good habit to knock them out as quickly as possible, while the servers are still populated.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

In this third-person action adventure game, you are Nathan Drake - a treasure hunter following Marco Polo's journals to Nepal and the Himalayas in search of the fabled city of Shambhala, where the Cintamani Stone awaits. Reunited with Victor "Sully" Sullivan and Elena Fisher, you meet a new cast of characters, climb, swing, and fight soldiers of a Serbian war criminal named Zoran Lazarevic, towards your goal. But in this cat-and-mouse game of treasure hunting, who can you trust?

Like its predecessor, Uncharted 2 also won several Game of the Year awards, including one from the Spike Video Game Awards in 2009.

If you've already collected the Platinum on the first Uncharted game, then the requirements for Among Thieves shouldn't be anything new to you. With a little time and some skill, you find all the hidden treasures, perform so many kills with different weapons, complete the game on each of the modes, and you're done.

There are trophies for the online content, but are not required in obtaining the Platinum. The only two which are requires are: Thrillseeker and Buddy System, both of which only need you to "complete" an online game, which is easy enough.

If you've played the first Uncharted, then you already know what to do in getting that Platinum. Your options, as in the previous game, are: quick and stressful (starting off on Hard Mode) or easier but slower paced (staying with Easy Mode until most trophies are unlocked). The choice is up to you.

Nearly all the trophies are identical to those on the first Uncharted - clear certain stages, find all the treasures (use the walkthroughs in our Links page for this) kill 50 enemies with certain weapons (often gained during your second playthrough, using infinite ammo) and a few other stunts (Run-And-Gunner, Hangman, etc.) which the Trophy Guides in our Links page should help you with. As stated earlier, the DLC online trophies are NOT required for the platinum, except for Buddy System and Thrillseeker, which can easily be acquired at any time.

the most difficult trophy for most people (besides Charted! - Crushing) is Steel Fist Expert, which requires you to defeat 10 enemies in a row with a single punch. Why is this a pain? Because you may be on a roll, defeated seven or eight enemies, and suddenly you accidentally kill the next one with your gun, or haven't softened him up enough and fail to take him out with one punch - which means you need to start over. We've included a Youtube video under our Links tab to give you an example of where in the game this trophy is easiest to acquire - but be prepared to spend a good hour or two yelling and swearing at your TV while throwing the controller at your cat/dog in frustration!
