Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a role-playing game developed by French studio Sandfall Interactive. Set in a dark fantasy Belle-Epoque like world, players control a party of up to three members, exploring the land while engaging in turn-based battles with a variety of enemies. Players can either try to dodge enemy attacks, or parry them which allows for a counter-strike.
The story takes place 67 years following a disaster known as the “Fracture,” which isolated the city of Lumiere from the rest of the continent. In the center of the continent rests a monolith, where the Paintress paints a number, causing all humans of that number’s age to disappear. The numbers began at 100, and have decreased by one each year. Each year, Lumiere has sent an expedition to the mainland in order to slay the Paintress before painting a new number. This year, it is Expedition 33’s turn to embark on this quest.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 received universal acclaim from critics, with an average score of 94%, and has won nine awards, including Best Game, at the 2025 Game Awards. The game has been praised for its visuals, world design, story, voice acting, and soundtrack.
This is a high 2-star rating, mainly due to the time required. Also, aside from needing some good strategy, which you can learn from the guides in our Links page, you will also need to get good at parrying, particularly when fighting some of the end-game bosses. However, with enough trial and error, anyone should be able to unlock all the trophies, thereby obtaining the platinum.
Expect around 70-80 hours of gameplay for this platinum.
The game does not have a trophy related to difficulty setting, so if you wish to play on the easiest setting, feel free to do so.
For the most part, you are free to play through the game from start to finish. After completing the game’s story, you will enter a free-play open world, in which you can continue mopping up remaining trophies. However, there are a few missable trophies to be concerned about during your playthrough.
The most important is A Peculiar Encounter trophy, near the start of the game. During the prologue, as you head towards the harbor, you will reach a broken arc de Triomphe just passed the flower market. Head towards the right, and near some scaffolding, you will see a Mime. Interact with the Mime to start the battle. After defeating the Mime, you will unlock the trophy.
Another potentially missable trophy is the Aiding The Enemy trophy, for finishing all 11 Nevron quests. These Nevrons appear as enemies, except they are white, and do not attack you. Each of these white Nevrons have a side quest for you to do. However, if for some reason you decide to attack and kill these white Nevrons before doing the quest, you will be locked out of getting this trophy.
Obtaining the Professional trophy, for defeating a boss without taking damage, is also missable since there is a limited number of bosses in the game. We recommend following one of the strategies in the Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 trophy guide links under our Links page for unlocking this trophy during an early boss battle. Essentially, if you are going for this trophy, and you get hit by the boss, simply let the boss kill you so you can try again.
Other missable trophies include the Curious trophy, which involves witnessing a scene during the camp. Basically, whenever you head to the campfire with the intention of “Go to Sleep,” and you seen another option to “Check on the Others,” always click on that one first, until it is no longer available. And lastly, the Maelle trophy for reaching level 7 with Maelle is a near-end story trophy. Near the end of the game’s story, during a conversation with Maelle at camp, you will have the option of “lying” or “telling the truth.” Be sure to select “Tell the Truth” in order to unlock the Maelle trophy.
With the exception of those missable trophies, the game can be played from start to finish without much worry. One other advice is, once you have unlocked Monoco has a playable character, always use him as one of your playable party members. This is because he will obtain skills by battling against particular enemies, enabling you to unlock the Feet Collection trophy.
There are a few character-specific battle trophies which, either you may unlock naturally during your playthrough, or you may need to go out of your way for these, depending on how you perform your battles. Be sure to check out the Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 trophy guide links under our Links tab for more details on these.
Once you finish the story, it is time to mop-up what is remaining. These will include collecting journals, collecting music records, and battling some pretty tough enemies, such as Clea and Simon. There is also the Endless Tower to climb, which is a good chance to do some farming post-game. Again, be sure to check out the trophy guides in our Links page for details on any trophies you are still missing.
