Devil May Cry 2 HD
Devil May Cry 2 is an action hack-and-slash, first released on the PlayStation 2 in 2003, and was revamped in HD with trophy support as part of the Devil May Cry Collection in 2012, which also included the prequel and sequel. The players fight numerous enemies in stylish combat using a variety of combos, with each mission granting a letter grade based on the player's performance.
Set in modern times, in the fictional city of Vie de Marlie, the demon hunter Dante has teamed up with Lucia in order to stop an international businessman named Arius from achieving world domination by bringing the demon Argosax into the world.
The original 2003 Devil May Cry 2 received very mixed reviews, with an average score of 65%, though was a commercial success. Some reviewers complained while others praised the more simplistic combat system, as well as boss battles which required less strategy. General criticism was towards Dante's character personality, which seemed changed from the prequel.
If you've managed the platinum on the prequel, then Devil May Cry 2 will feel like a breeze. Since each difficult mode needs to be individually unlocked, you'll need several playthroughs - though the game itself is not particularly long. A chapter select allows you to acquire the necessary S-ranks, and mop-up anything you missed.
Overall, expect around 20-30 hours, depending on your skills.
Before we begin, it should be noted that there are several cheats available, and they will NOT disable the trophies. These range from unlocking Trish, to a Mission Select, to unlocking the more difficult modes, which can then knock off a few, otherwise necessary, playthroughs. If this is something that interests you, then check out our Link tab for the cheats.
Otherwise, begin by playing and completing Normal mode with both Dante and Lucia's scenario, which will unlock Hard mode. Along the way, work on upgrading all weapons to Level 3 for the Like A Hot Knife Through Butter and To The Max trophies. Then, continue on with Dante's gun for the Arms Race trophy, and Lucia's sword for the Armed And Dangerous trophy. However, as you'll be performing several playthroughs, you don't need to do all this in one shot. You'll also want to work on completing the Secret Missions, and collecting all the Blue Orbs and Blue Orb fragments.
Once that's finished, you can start going through Hard mode. Again, you can use this opportunity to collect and complete anything you're still missing from your previous playthrough. With Hard mode complete, you will have unlocked Must Die mode - as well as the player character Trish. If you feel up to the task, you can playthrough Must Die mode using Trish now, in order to nab the Barehand Beauty trophy and save yourself an extra playthrough.
From this point on, it's simply a matter of any necessary grinding, and mopping-up any other trophies you're still missing. Check out the Devil May Cry 2 trophy guide links under our Links tab for specific details on anything you still need.
