Castlevania: Lords of Shadow

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is a third-person action-adventure, belonging to the Castlevania series which first appeared on the 8-bit NES, though is considered a reboot of the franchise for its drastic change in style of gameplay.

Players control Gabriel Belmont, armed with a retractable chain whip named the Combat Cross, which can also unlock combos - much in the style of the God of War games. The year is 1047, and an unknown force called the Lords of Shadow has threatened the alliance between Earth and Heaven. Souls of the deceased cannot leave this earth, stuck in a kind of limbo, while monsters begin attacking the living. Belmont, a member of the Brotherhood of Light, must defend the innocent against these dark creatures and stop of Lords of Shadow. (no Dracula?)

the game received fairly positive reviews, with an average score of 84%. Though it's been slightly criticized for "borrowing" many ideas from other games, the result is a vast, exciting adventure, and fun title to play.

This is a high 2-star rating, as getting through the game on its most difficult mode can be pretty frustrating. You'll need to play through the game at least twice, and there are collectibles and upgrades along the way, which will require following a walkthrough or two.

If you've played either Dante's Inferno or any God of War game, than you should have some idea of what to expect in terms of skills required.

To begin with, you'll need to beat the game in order to unlock the most difficult mode - Paladin. So if you want, you can begin playing on Easy. If you wish to prep yourself for the challenge of Paladin, then maybe try Knight (hard) mode.

At the end of each level, you'll have the option of purchasing new combos, or move to the next stage. If you missed anything, or simply want to farm to boost your XP, you can always backtrack to any previous level in the game. There are Gems to find along the way, so if you miss any, fear not. Just backtrack. Check out the walkthorughs under our Links tab for further assistance.

With regard to the Trials, they can only be unlocked AFTER you beat the level.

Once your first playthrough is complete, you'll have unlocked the Paladin mode. Make sure that you select Paladin before starting the level - otherwise it won't count.
