Port Royale 3: Pirates & Merchants

Port Royale 3: Pirates and Merchants is a business simulation game set during the 17th Century in the Caribbean, and the third installment in the Port Royale series. Players are free to pursue a career ranging from pirate to business tycoon, setting up businesses through colonization, trade routes, or raiding other ships.

A young Spanish commoner heads to the New World, where he ends up in the Caribbean city of Port Royale after a sea accident. There, he meets Elena, the daughter of the Viceroy, and must choose either to become a Trader or Pirate in order to win her heart.

Port Royale 3: Pirates and Merchants received lukewarm reviews with an average score of 58%, praised for some of its visuals and detailed simulation, though criticized for its repetitive gameplay.

This is a low 3-star rating. The Platinum is not particularly difficult, though the game demands a lot of strategy and holds a steep learning curve. Yet once players have the mechanics figured out, setting course for the Platinum should be smooth sailing. Still, a lot of grinding and time is required.

Expect a minimum of 50 hours for the Platinum, and more depending on strategy and some luck.

There are no missable trophies in the game. However, make several save slots, in case you mess up your strategy and need to retreat to an earlier point in the campaign.

We recommend selecting the Trader Campaign, as its not only the easier route, but you'll have a simpler time unlocking the trophies, and have plenty of gold to help you with the combat-related trophies later.

Focus on building a good economy by buying low in one city and selling high in another. Once you have enough gold, start buying ships and setting up trade routes set for Profit. You won't need to worry about pirates in the beginning, but later on you'll need a couple armed convoys for protection.

Continue earning money by building up businesses with residence. Also, boost your popularity by selling to them, as well as completing Tasks.

Once you're in a position to do so, start working towards the ...Vici! trophy, which involves taing control ov 30 towns in the game. Start by taking these through peaceful means, and only attack towns that lack convoys so your reputation won't fall by much. Unlocking the ...Vici! trophy will also earn you the Veni,... trophy for taking 5 towns, and the ...Vidi,... trophy for taing 15.

As you go through the story, get familiar with the other miscellaneous trophies and see what you can work on. Save the combat related trophies for last, as you should have a lot of gold and convoys at this point which make this step easier.
