Styx: Master of Shadows
Styx: Master of Shadows is a stealth game and prequel to the 2012 Of Orcs and Men. Players keep a low profile by hiding in the shadows in order to survive and progress to the next level. The titular character Styx possesses a number of abilities such as turning invisible, using amber-vision to detect hidden enemies, and cloning himself. Experience gained allows to unlock new skills and special moves.
Taking place before the events of Of Orcs and Men, Styx finds himself infiltrating a flying fortress called the Tower of Akenash, intent on rescuing a friend being held prisoner. However, Styx is apparently suffering from confusion, and does not yet understand why he is doing this.
Styx: Master of Shadows received mixed to positive reviews with an average score of 70%, praised for its stealth tactics, required strategizing, and overall fun, though criticized for its combat tactics and technical issues such as long loading time.
This is a high 2-star difficulty, due to the time required. You will need to do two playthroughs, one in which you employ stealth tactics and therefore avoid killing anyone, and another to unlock the kill-related trophies. There are also quite a few collectibles to find. Having said that, the game is not particularly difficult, especially for players used to stealth games such as Thief or Deus Ex, and can be played on its easiest difficulty setting without affecting any trophies.
Expect around 35-40 hours for the Platinum, depending on your stealth skills.
If you want to make things easier, you can select the easiest mode to play, as there are no difficulty-related trophies.
Start your first playthrough by avoiding setting off any alerts for the Shadow insignia, while also focusing on the kill-related trophies, and collecting all the tokens and relics, as well as completing all the secondary objectives. Be sure to follow one of the walkthroughs and collectibles guides under our Links tab for more details. There are eight missions in total, divided into sub-zones.
During that first playthrough, you will also unlock all the mission completed trophies, and a number of others naturally.
For your second playthrough, you’ll be using the mission select to replay each mission. This time, you’ll want to focus on a full-on stealth gameplay in order to avoid killing anyone, while also completing each mission within the time limit.
With that done, it’s simply a matter of mopping up anything you’re still missing, which may include unlocking all the skills for the Great Power trophy, or any other missables. Be sure to check out the Styx Master of Shadows trophy guide links under our Links tab to see what you’re still missing and their requirements.
