Dark Cloud 2

Dark Cloud 2 is a third-person action-RPG first released on the PlayStation 2 in 2002, and revamped with trophy support for the PlayStation 4 in 2016. The game is a spiritual sequel to Dark Cloud as it uses the same procedurally-generated dungeons and real time hack and slash playstyle, yet possesses a new plot and characters.

Max is a young boy who is forced to flee from the sanctity of his town after an enemy attempts to take away a stone in his possession. He teams up with Monica, a princess from one hundred years in the future, and together they set off on a quest where the past, present, and future collide.

The original Dark Cloud 2 for the PS2 received positive reviews with an average score of 89%, praised for its gameplay, story, colorful characters, weapon upgrade system, and graphics.

The 3-star difficulty is for both the difficulty and time required. The Medalhead trophy in particular, which requires fulfilling challenges in order to collect medals, can be quite frustrating as it requires a fair bit of preparation and luck. Also, while the game still includes a post-game free roam, there are still a number of missable trophies to be concerned with. Overall, the platinum is more difficult and time-consuming than its predecessor, but still doable.

Expect around 120-140 hours of gameplay for the platinum.

To begin, there are four missable trophies to be concerned with: A True Visionary, Medalhead, Monster Master, and Take A Picture It Will Last Longer. The point of no-return is the final boss in Chapter 7, as you will be locked out of Moon Flower Palace, Kazarov Stonehenge, and other future areas after defeating him. So feel free to play up until facing the final boss in Chapter 7, and make sure it is safe to proceed before taking him on.

Near the beginning of the story, you will come in possession of the camera. From this point on, make sure to be on the lookout for photos and scoops in order to start working towards the Take A Picture It Will Last Longer trophy, which requires 700 points in total, out of the 750 points which are available. Check out the link for the ideas, scoops, and inventions guide under our Links tab for more details. You can also use this link to help with unlocking A True Visionary trophy, which is another missable trophy which needs to be unlocked before the final boss in Chapter 7.

You’ll also want to unlock the Fighting For Fun trophy as early in the game as possible. This involves defeating 200 enemies without dying, which of course will become more difficult as you progress through the game.

Aside from that, you’ll want to focus your time on leveling your Ridepod and weapons to prepare for the boss battles in Chapter 7. This means unlocking the Core Strength trophy for acquiring Steve and Ridepod’s master grade core, A Royal Arsenal trophy for building up Monica’s Island King and Five Star Armlet weapons, and the LEGENDary trophy for building up Max’s Legend and Supernova weapons. Lastly, you’ll need to obtain all 12 monster transformation badges for the Monster Master trophy, as well.

Once all that is finished, it’s time to focus on earning all medals in every chapter up to this point for the Medalhead trophy. These are a collection of challenges which often include speedruns, defeating enemies in a particular way, fishing, and playing Spheda. Some of these can be quite challenging. Be sure to check out the Dark Cloud 2 trophy guide links under our Links tab for more specific details.

Once you feel you are ready, go ahead and defeat the final bosses at the end of Chapter 7, which will end the game and unlock the Palace Of Flowers trophy.

From here, you will embark on the Zelmite Mine bonus dungeon in Chapter 8, where you will be able to unlock the Medalhead trophy. You can also spend this time unlocking any other of the unmissable outstanding trophies at this point. Defeat the Dark Genie, which is the last boss, to unlock The Forgotten Adventure trophy.
