The Forest

The Forest is a survival horror with both exploration and crafting elements. Taking place on a peninsula covered by a forest, players must create a shelter and weapons to defend against enemies, craft survival tools, as well as hunt for food and water to stay alive. Players can also explore a labyrinth of underground caves for better tools and weapons, as well as discover clues to the whereabouts of the player-character’s son. The game also includes a 4-player online co-op mode.

Eric LeBlanc is on a flight with his son Timmy when the plane crashes on a peninsula surrounded by a forest. He awakes to see his son kidnapped by a strange man. Eric must survive the horrors awaiting him on the peninsula while searching for his son’s whereabouts.

The Forest received positive reviews with an average score of 80%, praised for its creepy atmosphere, increasing difficulty, AI enemies, and story, though criticized by some for minor bugs and technical issues.

Since the majority of the trophies can be done on creative mode, the Platinum isn’t particularly challenging. There are only a couple combat related trophies where you’ll need to play the game with enemies, though these are easy to get. Also, if you find someone to play or boost with, the four online trophies are not difficult as well. However, the reason for the 2-star difficulty is for the time involved, as you will need to do a lot of exploring, searching for mushrooms, and cutting trees, to eventually unlock all the trophies.

If you are just going for the Platinum, following the guides, and have a boosting partner for the online trophies, it will take around 30-40 hours for the Platinum.

If you’re in a rush for the Platinum, begin by starting a game on Peaceful mode where you do not need to worry about enemies, and finish the game. To do this, it is recommended to follow one of the walkthroughs under our Links tab. Essentially, you will need to craft some Molotov cocktails and a spear for the ending, collect the rebreather from Cave 5, the key card from Cave 6, then head towards the bottom of the sinkhole from Cave 7 to finish the game. Doing this will not only unlock the Survive The Forest trophy for completing the game, but will unlock Creative Mode. Also, if you are able to do this while eating only snacks, you can unlock the Vegan trophy as well.

Once you’ve completed the game, it’s time to start a new game on the newly unlocked Creative Mode. Here is where the majority of your time will be spent, unlocking the majority of the trophies. Your ultimate goal here is to survive 100 days without finding your son in order to unlock the Bad Father trophy, as well as pass 50,000 steps for the Step Master trophy. Along the way, you will need to collect all 5 cassette tapes for the Gabe Fan trophy, collect the 6 robot pieces for the Good Father trophy, find and eat all 6 mushroom types for the You Are A Fun Guy trophy, explore all 10 caves for the Spelunker trophy, find and hunt and display all animal types for the Trophy Hunter trophy, find all 43 passengers on the island for the Get Closure trophy, and craft all items at least once for the Crafty trophy. Be sure to check out the walkthroughs, maps, and The Forest trophy guide links under our Links tab for added help with this.

Also, it should be noted that the Don’t Save The Forest trophy for cutting down 1000 trees must be done in one sitting. This means, you cannot save and quite your game, otherwise your count of cut trees will be reset to zero. The quickest way to do this in one sitting is either online with three other players each cutting 250 trees, or on Creative Mode using explosive trip wire traps.

Once all that is done, there are a couple trophies which you’ll need enemies for. This means setting up a new game on Normal mode and chopping up a total of 50 bodies for the Choppy Chop trophy, killing and eating 6 enemies for the Major Cannibalism trophy, and killing a downed enemy with a rock for the Splatter trophy.

Last, there are four multiplayer trophies to get. For the Medic trophy, in which you need to revive 10 co-op players, simply take turns killing and reviving each other until the trophy pops. If you are looking for a boosting partner for this, check out the boosting forums under our Links tab. Or, simply host an online session and wait for people to join to knock out these four trophies.
