Boundless
Boundless is a massively multiplayer online sandbox game with crafting elements, first released on the PC under the title of Oort Online. Players can select to play in either first or third person, and roam a procedurally generated planet to either explore, or cultivate materials in order to create tools, weapons, machines, as well as buildings, towns, and cities. The importance of a player's plotted area is measured by Prestige which increases by the number of, and quality, of blocks placed. Players can join other settlements with high prestige, travel to other areas or planets by warping, as well as buy, sell, and trade items. Weapons are used to attack creatures, as well as defend against creatures on higher-level worlds.
Boundles received widely mixed reviews with an average score of 70%, praised for its deep crafting system, the procedurally created worlds and environments, and overall crafting fun, while criticized by others for being too similar to Minecraft and lacking in tutorial information.
The game is not necessarily difficult to warrant a 5-star difficulty rating. However, be prepared to spend hundreds upon hundreds of hours for the Platinum. The more challenging trophy will require you to be the top player in the largest town of a planet. And if that isn't enough, you will need to defeat 1,000 creatures, place 1,000 plots, placed 50,000 blocks, and destroyed 100,000 blocks, as well as complete 185 journal objectives, complete 675 feats, and many other time-consuming activities.
The Platinum for Boundless will probably take most players a couple years, though more specifically, well over 1,000 hours.
The first step is to simply learn the ropes of the game. You'll first need to select a world which we recommend starting on a Level 1 planet so you can work on understanding how to play the game without being attacked by creatures. For the location on that world, we suggest somewhere relatively near an already established settlement, but far enough that you have room to start building. Keep in mind, you can always pack up your stuff and move to another location later on.
Spend a good amount of time getting adjusted to the game, mining for materials, building your settlement, and creating different tools, machines, and weapons, while exploring the area and leveling up your character. The game doesn't explain very much, so be sure to check out some of the guides under our Links tab for further assistance.
You'll receive skill points, as well as Cubits which can be used make in-game purchases, including more plots to expand your area. It should be noted that spending these Cubits on a new character is a quicker way to get more plots, for two reasons. One, is that lower-level characters level-up faster, which means more Cubits to buy more plots. Second, you will be unable to fill out all the skills in one character, which means you'll need more than one to handle certain abilities.
We recommend creating at least five different characters: 1) A main, well-rounded character which you'll focus on reaching level 50 for The Master trophy. 2) A warrior for attacking creatures. 3) A gatherer who can travel to dangerous worlds and collect resources quicker. 4) A tech builder. 5) a food builder.
Once you've gotten the hang of the game, it's time to get more serious. Your ultimate goal will be to become the Viceroy of a world for the Ruler Of The World trophy, which means you will need to have the highest Beacon Prestige on that planet. There are two methods to doing this. One, is to stay on your Level 1 where it's safe but has the highest population, and build like crazy. Or, begin creating a settlement on a higher level world which is more dangerous but has a much lower population. Whichever path you take, you can still expect a long time on your way to becoming Viceroy.
While you work towards this, you'll want to continue leveling up your main character to Level 50, achieve a Beacon Prestige rating of 500,000 for the Seven Wonders Of The World trophy, hunt for meteors, hunt for creatures across different worlds, revive defeated citizens, while also completing journal entries and feats.
You'll also want to set up a Shop, and start selling items you've been gathering. Prime real-estate for this would be in front of, or near, a Hub where people come and go as they warp in and out of the world (marked as a purple rectangle on your hud). Even if you don't manage to sell anything, you'll still earn coins for the foot traffic. You'll need those coins to purchase things yourself, as well as to warp to different locations and worlds, and of course to unlock the Money Maker trophy for earning 500,000 coins in foot traffic.
Finally, if you're having trouble boosting your Beacon Prestige, refine your stones and wood to increase their value. Using a chisel on those blocks will also improve their worth.
Good luck!
