Mafia III

Mafia III is a third-person action adventure set in an open world, and the next main entry in the Mafia series following the 2010 Mafia II. The game takes place in the fictional city of New Bordeaux, based on New Orleans, where players can traverse either on foot or by vehicle, completing missions and objectives through a variety of approaches.

Set in 1686, Lincoln Clay is a war vet returning from Vietnam to a turf war in New Bordeaux, between his father's family and the Haitian mob. It is soon up to Lincoln to build a new crime organization and seek his revenge.

Mafia III received mixed reviews with an average score of 68%, praised for its interesting story, engaging characters, and overall presentation, though criticized for having repetitive gameplay, a seemingly empty environment, and technical issues.

This is a high 2-star rating, due to the time required. The game is not difficult, as you can play on Easy mode, and there are no online trophies to worry about. However, the Platinum will require at least two playthroughs, one where you "flip," or recruit, informants and bosses, and another where you'll kill them. Since it's possible to mess up the flipping and therefore miss the trophies, a third playthrough may be required.

Expect anywhere between 45-60 hours for the Platinum, heavily dependent on how many playthroughs are performed.

Two playthroughs are required for the Platinum, one for flipping, the other for killing. It's up to you which playthrough you wish to do first.

For the flip playthrough, you will need to flip all the racket bosses, by acquiring information on them through wiretapping the areas closes to the boss you plan to take down. There are 16 racket bosses you will need to flip to ultimately get The New Boss trophy. As long as you wiretapped the locations correctly, you will receive the option to either flip or kill that boss, which in this case you should always choose to flip. If done incorrectly, than Lincoln will automatically kill him. It should also be noted that there are two racket bosses who are automatically killed in the story, and therefore do not count towards the trophy.

In addition to the bosses, you will also need to flip 15 racket informants through the same means. Wiretap the areas closes to that informant, and flip him when the option presents itself.

During this playthrough, you should also work towards the We're In This Together trophy for keeping all three underbosses alive, by distributing the districts equally among them. If one of the three underbosses receives less districts than the other, than that underboss will leave and Lincoln will be forced to kill them.

The point of no return is the mission where you go after Sal Marcano for the Yet Here We Are trophy. Make sure all side quests have been completed before continuing on. Also, be sure to check out the Mafia III trophy guide links under our Links tab to see which trophies you can unlock at this point, before completing the game.

For the kill playthrough, you will still be wiretapping the areas closest to the racket bosses and informants, but instead selecting the Kill option rather than flip. Also, if you've managed to unlock the We're In This Together trophy during your flip playthrough, than this is your chance to give all the districts to whichever underboss you like. This will force Lincoln to kill the other two, and unlock the Just You And Me trophy, as well as the Big Earner trophy for receiving $10,000 from the underboss you selected to keep alive.

If all went well, you should have the Platinum trophy by the end of the second playthrough. If not, you'll need to start up a third, and work on whichever trophies you missed. Again, check out the Mafia III trophy guide links to see what you are missing and their requirements.

PlayStation Plus Free Games August 2018

Since August begins on a Wednesday, Sony has just now announced their next line-up of PlayStation Plus Free Games August 2018 which are available for download on the first Tuesday of this month, August 7.

On the PlayStation 4, there’s Mafia III, the open-world action game, set in 1968 where war veteran Lincoln Clay returns home to set up a new mafia family to seek revenge against a rival mob. And Dead by Daylight: Special Edition, a multiplayer horror title featuring a serial killer out to slay his prey in a changing environment.

For the PlayStation 3, there’s Bound by Flame, an action RPG where players control a mercenary possessed by a flame demon out to destroy the creatures of Vertiel. And Serious Sam 3 BFE, a first-person shooter that pits the player against a horde of enemies in an open-world environment.

And on the PlayStation Vita, there’s Draw Slasher, which uses touch-screen commands to control a ninja out to rescue his family from the Pirate Monkey Zombies. And Space Hulk, a turn-based strategy set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

In addition to these six freebies, Sony is also adding Here They Lie to the list, the PlayStation VR horror game which is available as a free download until October 2. And if that’s not enough, the party game Knowledge is Power will also be added for PlayStation Plus members to download for free, until November 6.

Among the PlayStation Plus Free Games August 2018 line-up, Mafia III, Dead by Daylight, Bound by Flame, Serious Sam 3 BFE, Space Hulk, and Knowledge is Power all have Platinum trophies to obtain.

Of these, Knowledge is Power is technically the easiest Platinum and requires only about 10 hours, but requires 6 smartphones or tablets. Mafia III is a fairly easy Platinum, though will require roughly 50 hours of gameplay. Meanwhile, both Bound by Flame and Space Hulk are fairly average in difficulty, requiring 30 and 40 hours respectively.

Finally, if you have a PlayStation VR, then unlocking 100% of the trophies on Here They Lie is easy to do, and only requires a couple hours.
