PlayStation Plus Free Games October 2019

Following the electric excitement of the Tokyo Game Show, we’re ready to buckle down and start playing some games – particularly some free ones. Luckily, Sony has just released their line-up for the PlayStation Plus Free Games October 2019 which are available for download on Tuesday, October 1.

First, there’s The Last of Us Remastered, which includes both the original The Last of Us first released on the PS3, and its DLC add-on The Last of Us: Left Behind. This is a survival-horror with stealth elements taking place twenty years following a pandemic which turned the infected into strange, zombie-like creatures.

Next, there’s MLB The Show 19, the next installment in the baseball MLB The Show franchise where you can create your own player and rise through the MLB ranks, or recreate famous showdowns in baseball history. Also, PlayStation Plus members who log into the game in October will receive free in-game content, which include equipment for your created player, and some other cool trinkets.

Both The Last of Us Remastered and MLB The Show 19 have Platinum trophies to unlock.

Obtaining the Platinum on The Last of Us Remastered is more time consuming than difficult, though will still require some skills. A minimum of two playthroughs is needed, as well as time finding all those collectibles. The online trophies, without boosting, will also require just as much time.

The Platinum for MLB The Show 19 is quite difficult, even for those with experience with this baseball series. This is mainly due to the Welcome To The Chip trophy, which requires reaching the Championship Series Division in Ranked Seasons. In other words, being in the top 5% among other online players at least once in a given month.

Online Server Shutdown Update

So far, we’ve seen a few games have their online server shutdown this year on both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, causing their Platinum trophies to become Not Obtainable. Some notable titles were PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, Twisted Metal, Warhawk, and Drawn to Death.

Yet the list is not over. As games age, and their online servers become less populated with players, they run the risk of being closed. This can spell disaster for trophy hunters and completionists determined to get those Platinum trophies.

So to help you prepare for these disasters, here is a list of all known titles scheduled to have their online servers closed both this year and next:

July 25, 2019

StarBlood Arena – This was a free PSVR game for PlayStation Plus members in January 2018. The game is online-only, so not only will the Platinum and all its trophies become Not Obtainable by this date, but the game itself will become unplayable.

August 22, 2019

PES 2018 – Also known as Pro Evolution Soccer 2018, or Winning Eleven 2018 in Japan, this game was released by Konami in September 2017 for both the PS3 and PS4. The game includes 15 online trophies, which means the Platinum for both consol versions will become Not Obtainable.

September 4, 2019

The Last of Us – Only the PS3 version will be affected by the shutdown. The game includes 4 online trophies, and several more for the DLC.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves – This shutdown is also for the PS3 version. The game includes 2 easy online trophies, though numberous more for the DLC.

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception – Like the above, only the PS3 version will have its online servers closed. Again, only 2 easy online trophies are required for the Platinum, but many more for the DLC.

December 31, 2019

NBA 2K18 – This should come as no surprise to fans of the NBA 2K series, as their online servers usually don’t last longer than a year. There are a number of online trophies on both the PS3 and PS4 version which will become Not Obtainable after this date.

March 31, 2020

DriveClub – This racing game for the PS4 includes 8 online trophies.

DriveClub VR – The PSVR version of DriveClub, released in October 2016. This game includes 2 online trophies.

DriveClub Bikes – The motorcycle version of DriveClub, released in October 2015. This game includes 3 online trophies, which will become Not Obtainable by March 31 of next year.

May 19, 2020

WWE 2K19 – Though the manual states May 31, we heard from other sources that the online servers will be shut down one week earlier. Fans of the series who want to get the Platinum should try unlock its online trophies before this date, to be safe rather than sorry.

December 31, 2020

NBA 2K19 – This game was recently released, and we already know the date for its online server shutdown. However, while there is still a fair bit of time to unlock its online trophies, it’s always a good habit to knock them out as quickly as possible, while the servers are still populated.

Last of Us

From Naughty Dog, the creators behind the famed Uncharted series, comes The Last of Us - a third-person survival horror set in the future, post-apocalyptic world filled with zombie-like creatures and dangerous humans. The game involves a cover system, while battling with melee combat and the occasional gunfight. A multiplayer mode is also included.

The year is 2033, and the world is plagued by a fungi virus which turns humans into zombie-like creatures. Joel is a survivor who must escort a young girl named Ellie across the United States to a resistance group known as the Fireflies in hopes of finding a cure to the virus.

the game received outstanding reviews, with an average score of 93% for its fascinating story, as well as engaging gameplay, and has been named a "masterpiece" by many gaming magazines.

More time consuming than difficult. You will need, minimum, two full playthroughs - one of which spent finding tons of collectibles, the other playing on the highest difficulty mode. In addition, there are some online trophies which will require just as much time as the offline.

Overall, this platinum is very doable, but will take about 50-70 hours.

NOTE: The Trophies on the PS4 version have a separate list than those on the PS3.

As we mentioned before, you will need to play this game at least twice - once to unlock Survivor mode, then once to play Survivor mode. This means, on your first playthrough, you can select any mode you wish. During this first playthrough, try to gain as many trophies as possible - particularly all the collectibles. Check out the walkthroughs in our Links page for their locations.

Next, head into Survivor mode and make your way to the end, to collect the No Matter What - Survivor trophy. This is also a good chance to collect anything you may have missed on your first playthrough.

Hopefully by now, you have all the offline trophies. If not, start a New Game ++ to finish upgrading your weapons, or use the Chapter Select to collect the remaining collectibles.

Once all the offline trophies are complete, you can head in to multiplayer and start working on those last remaining 4 trophies.

Enjoy!
